This is a good week for news, and it has just begun!
A sex offender wins a charity raffle and you won’t believe who the charity was for:
A convicted sex offender won a $500,000 Alaska raffle that was a fundraiser for a nonprofit organization that helps victims of sexual abuse (Standing Together Against Rape, or STAR).
The state sex offender registry lists Ahsoak as convicted of two counts of sexual abuse of a minor in 1993 and one count in 2000.
Ahsoak says he plans to use the money to buy a home and to improve his life. He tells KTUU-TV he will donate $100,000 to STAR.

Prince Harry shows his true colors:
Britain’s Prince Harry apologized over the weekend after a newspaper released video footage of him calling an army colleague a "Paki" and telling another he looked like a "raghead."
The paper reported that Harry made the remarks in 2006 during a visit to Cyprus to carry out training exercises with fellow military cadets. In part of the video apparently filmed by Harry himself, he refers to one colleague as "our little paki friend" — using a derogatory term for people of Pakistani origin.
In a second video clip, Harry calls another cadet — who is wearing a headscarf — a "raghead." The newspaper said that the video was filmed by other cadets and supplied to the newspaper.
In Pakistan, many people reacted angrily to the report.
"Anything like this is unacceptable to us, even to anyone around the world. We have all the abilities to call the prince something or anything, and things about his father and mother, but we don’t do that because we believe that is wrong," said Mohammad Arslan, a 33-year-old technician in the capital, Islamabad.
Barkat Ali, a 46-year-old driver in Islamabad, said the comments were regrettable, and called on Pakistan’s government to seek an explanation from Harry and British leaders.
But Ibrar Ahmed, a schoolteacher in Multan, said most people had more important things to worry about. "Let’s be fair about it. Dogs may bark, but people go about their business," Ahmed said.

Oh, where to get married? That is the question. But…….
Customers inside the fast-food restaurant continued to order tacos and burritos as the couple sat Friday in an orange booth at Taco Bell and exchanged vows.
"It’s appropriate," groom Paul Brooks said. "It’s an offbeat relationship."
Employees displayed hot sauce packets labeled with the words "Will you marry me?" They decorated the restaurant with streamers and balloons.
The bride wore a $15 hot pink dress and the entire wedding cost about $200. Several dozen guests looked on as the couple’s friend, Ryan Green of Normal, administered the vows while wearing a T-shirt. He was ordained online.
Caragh Brooks, 21, of Australia, met Paul Brooks, 30, on an Internet dating Web site. They already had the same last name.
He proposed on New Year’s Eve and, because they like to spend time at the local Taco Bell, they decided to wed there.

President Bush didn’t mind toasting his own party:
President Bush says he refused to "bail out my political party" by withdrawing troops "during the darkest days of Iraq," a decision now lauded by his father in an unprecedented joint interview of both presidents by Brit Hume on "FOX News Sunday."
"During the darkest days of Iraq, people came to me and said, ‘You’re creating incredible political difficulties for us,’" the current president said as his term draws to a close. "And I said, ‘Oh, really? What do you suggest I do?’ And some suggested retreat, pull out of Iraq.
"But I had faith that freedom exists in people’s souls and therefore, if given a chance, democracy and Iraqi-style democracy could survive and work," the president said. "I didn’t compromise that principle for the sake of trying to, you know, bail out my political party."
"The biggest disappointment in the political process, that’s been this kind of bitterness by a few people to the point where they don’t want to have a logical discussion or a civil discussion about policy," he said. "They just want to tear you down."
But with the war in Iraq nearly won after years of setbacks, the younger Bush exudes serenity as he wraps up his two terms in the White House. "I’m better than fine — I am proud of the accomplishments of this administration," he said. "I know I gave it my all for eight years, and I did not sell my soul for the sake of popularity. And so when I get back home and look in the mirror, I will be proud of what I see."
And…..in honor of one of our regular bloggers, SoMG, all articles are from Fox News!

We don’t know why the sex offender was a sex offender. He could have been an 18 year old who had a fifteen year old girlfriend, he could have meet a mature looking girl who said she was 18. That doesn’t excuse him but it seems like he is trying to better himself and he did give back $100,000. I wouldn’t be so quick to judge.
The British royal families only job is to look good and they can’t even do that right.
Mmmmm I looove tacos. Tacos are soooo delicious. I was at a Cold Stones a few days ago with some friends and asked them, “How horrible would it be if someone put an engagement ring in your ice cream and you ate it?”
Bush is going to be a tough act to follow.
Jess –
If you look at the article he was convicted of sexual abuse of a minor in 1993 AND 2000. That shows a pattern.
I love Taco Bell. But I don’t think I would want to be married in one!
@Jess: Cold Stone sucks. I hate them sooooooo much. Why? Because when I worked there I fell and busted my elbow.
Boooooooooo.
:-p
Oh I didn’t read the article.
I had the marshmallow ice cream Rae and it was delicious. You must have a good voice, since I hear you have to audition for a job. Will you indulge me and sing us a song?
Oh did you just add the part about the two counts of abuse? I’m sorry I totally missed it I don’t know how I didn’t see it. Well the last was eight years ago so hopefully he has gotten the help he needs and actually tries to reform his life.
Jess –
That is the problem. Psychologists have stated over and over again that reforming a true sexual predator is next to impossible. Add onto this that we live in a culture that consistently says if it feels good do it – and that “impossilbe” has just become “Hell no” there will be no reform.
When I say “true” sexual predator – I have no idea of the details of that man. However, both charges were 7 years a part. It is estimated that a sexual predator will harm many children/minors before getting caught and charged with just one.

“How horrible would it be if someone put an engagement ring in your ice cream and you ate it?”
Ha, ha. Jess, my husband proposed by putting a ring into a half gallon of Edy’s chocolate chip ice cream and then later asking if I wanted to scoop us some. Fortunately I didn’t eat it.
I’m sorry if I was testy to you last night. I was feeling pretty crummy all day and it may have come out on you.
Oh no problem DeeL I always enjoy lively conversation. I’m sorry you had a bad day, why don’t you eat some ice cream? There might be a bracelet in there this time : )
Jess,
I think those days are gone for awhile. College tuition days for us.
Hey everyone:
Totally off topic, but something both the moms and the kids can appreciate.

Call me weird, but I consider sexual assault, child molestation, etc worse than being killed.
I think sex offenders should be taken out back and shot immediately after being found guilty, or at least given the death penalty.
*supports limits on number of appeals given to death row inmates and therefore supports lowering the cost of executions*
Rae –
I agree that appeals need to be limited. However, I believe death row should be removed. I think life in prison is far worse than death.
@Valerie: I don’t want to pay to keep those [insert colorful profanity here] alive. I do not want to pay for their food. I do not want to pay for their medical care.
However, I would be open to their being kept in solitary- and I mean REAL solitary. They NEVER leave their cell, they never communicate to another human being again.
Rae –
I’ll agree to that!
