How did I miss this poll?

In February, Gallop did a poll to see how many people believe in evolution.  This was done in honor of Darwin’s 200th birthday.  When people have a very strong belief system and they think that any other belief system is wrong, emotions usually get very high.  Perhaps it is polls like this that get everyone’s panty’s in a knot:

On the eve of the 200th anniversary of Charles Darwin’s birth, a new Gallup Poll shows that only 39% of Americans say they "believe in the theory of evolution," while a quarter say they do not believe in the theory, and another 36% don’t have an opinion either way.

Now, before the Creationists and Intelligent Design believers start to celebrateMissing Link there may be some bad news.

It seems the lower the education the lower the belief in Evolution.  Out of the people who only have a high school diploma – 21% believe in Evolution.  Out of the people who have a Post graduate degree (higher than Bachelors) – 74% believe in Evolution.

Another factor is, of course, religion.  Only 24% of weekly church goers believe in Evolution while 55% of people who seldom or never go to Church believe in Evolution.

Also, it seems the older you get, the less likely you are to believe in Evolution.  49% of people aged 18 – 34 believe in it while 31% of the 55 years old and older believe.

All this said, I am very surprised by these numbers.  I’m constantly being told that everyone believes in Evolution and only the crazy religious freaks do not believe in it.

I’m reporting on this because I found it interesting and thought you would to.  I for one do believe in Evolution to a degree.  Until there is scientific evidence that provides some explanation as to how humans’ can be so much more advanced through evolution – leaving all other species behind – I will believe that there was a divine force involved with our evolution.

Actually the consensus has always been that the U.S. is behind, because a large amount of people don’t believe in evolution. But, a very large majority of people who have actually studied the subject do. It is a function of how much you were taught, which is partly why our science education here is sub par- it’s not a popularity contest and PTAs don’t decide what is taught- the current scientific consensus is ultimately the basis of curriculum. In this case, it’s no contest.

“In This caswe, it’s no contest.’
Too bad, PiP …. so sad!

Evoluton is about how species pass-on their features (inheritance). As yet I have yet to hear about any rules that govern a product that came from symbiosis. It seems two living entities can produce: a jackass (besides me!) and the mitochondria inside cells was originally a virus that reproduced inside a cell (also forget its name). Evolution (Laws) also apply here. ‘Tis a matter of faith!

Life in the universe life is quite rare and intelligent life even rarer. Is the universe a silent place? Remember a tree falling in the forest ………………
I would ask if there is intelligent life, why would they contact a species that prides itself on belief in evolution (a set of ideas). Christians at least center their beliefs on a person?
