NAACP releases “unedited” video

Recently I put up a video of Shirley Sherrod and a speech she gave to a group of NAACP members this year.  In it she describes not helping a white farmer.  This outraged the NAACP, who for some reason did not defend her with the “unedited” tape before they released a statement condemning her.  I keep putting the word unedited in quotation marks because the video is indeed edited.  The most obvious is 21 minutes into the tape and it is during her story about not helping the white man, but I digress.

The beginning of the speech she talks about her father being killed by white men.  Considering the location, Georgia I think, and the time frame it would not be unusual that his murder would indeed be because of racial discrimination.  This must have affected her greatly.

Her story does indeed go on to say that she did eventually help the white farmer and he did not loose his land.  She only did this after she found out that the white lawyer, whom the bankrupt farmer had to pay, refused to allow the white farmer from filing bankruptcy and his farm was in foreclosure.  She knew that the white farmer would have to pay “one of his own” and he would not of had to pay her for help.  If she were Catholic, I would say Catholic guilt overcame her and she saw her wrongdoings.  Winking smile  But whatever religion she is – she did feel guilt and she did see the error of her ways.

In the end she does help the farmer and he does not lose his farm.  According to what I have read, she is still friends with the farmer and his family.

So, this story does have a happy ending and I will admit that I reported on the story too early and made judgments too quickly.  I apologize for that.  Once the NAACP condemned what she said, I figured their was nothing more to the story.  One of the reasons I didn’t write more on her resignation in my update on that post is because I was in shock that it happened so fast, however, this again affirmed my accusations.  I didn’t post the story in hopes that she would lose her job though, but to show the hypocrisy of the NAACP.

I do feel that my objective of hypocrisy was in fact accomplished.  Her story of screwing over the white farmer begins around 17 minutes of the “unedited” video.  Listen to the audience and their reaction.  When she claims the farmer, who had to go to her for help, was trying to act superior to her the members of the NAACP audience agree with her.  It is their reactions to this section of the story and a couple other sections that really got me upset.  Considering it was obvious that she was going to tell that she was in the wrong, they still made noises of approval.

Anywho, here is the “unedited” video:

If you don’t want to watch the whole video – like I said above the story of the white farmer begins around 17 minutes into the speech with something that got the audience rallied up that was edited out just after 21 minutes. I encourage you to at least listen to the last minute or so of her speech.  She makes an excellent point.
