About

Everybody today seems to be in such a terrible rush, anxious for greater developments and greater riches and so on, so that children have very little time for their parents. Parents have very little time for each other, and in the home begins the disruption of peace of the world.

- Mother Teresa

What does “2 Seconds Faster” mean?

2SecondsFaster is the new way of life.  Society is not happy unless they have everything 2 seconds faster than what they did the day before.  We can no longer stop to smell the roses because we are too busy.  The only roses we come in contact with now a days is the virtual ones on our Wii games.

Our Authors:

Valerie Jane -

Hello all! I am the statistical geek of the bunch!  I usually discuss politics and other headlines that interest me.  I’ve also been known to convey my own personal thoughts from time to time.

I have two beautiful children that some say are in the special needs category. I say they aren’t special needs – they are just attention deficient and verballySilvermist dysfunctioned. I did request perfect children from God, however I’ve never been happier that He didn’t listen to me. I find I get ignored quite often from The Big Guy Upstairs, and I’m usually better off!

I am also owned by two giant breed dogs. They have me very well trained. ;-) I love to read and write and I hope that one day I will be able to publish some of my fiction.

I am an open person about certain personal issues and that comes through in many articles and comments.  I’m not afraid to announce that I am ADHD with Major Depressant Disorder.  I am also very open about my mother’s suicide in 2004.  No one should have to feel ashamed because of these things and that shame will never go away if people like me are afraid to speak up.

I am proud to admit that I am a conservative Pro-Life Mom and will go to bat for the voiceless. But be forewarned – According to my sisters I have the ability to think inside out, which can cause dizzyness and confusion. You might want to refrain from driving heavy machinery after reading my articles.

MK-

Hi.  I’m MK, the other one.  I’m the mother of six kids, 5 boys/1 girl, ages 29 thru 8.  I also have three grandchildren.  I reverted to the Catholic Faith some 18 years ago.  I was raised Catholic but had lost my way…big time.   I’m "home" now, and loving it.

I love all things Catholic.  My favorite Catholic Authors are G.K.Chesterton,  Peter Kreeft, Bishop Fulton Sheen, Scott Hahn and even tho he isn’t technically Catholic, C.S.Lewis.  I love to read and usually have 5 or 6 books going at a time.

I love camping, (still can’t convince finally convinced Val this summer),  Irish/Folk music, gardening, movies (Oh how I love the silver screen), dogs, humor and lemmings.  Musn’t forget the lemmings.

I have one dog (I’d have two, but Gracie won’t cooperate), a collie mix,  2 gerbils, and a bunny.

I have been called a bulldozer, passionate, strong and pushy.  I like to think I’m misunderstood.  ;-)   A friend of mine calls me Tilly which is short for Attila the Hun.  Whatever you call me, you’ll always know where I stand.

I’ll be posting on stuff that has a Catholic bent, as well as running the book club.  With Vals  permission, I’ll also throw in a movie/book review now and then.  Hey, Michael Medved does it!

My goal is to open up the lines of communication, educate, laugh and make new friends.  We might not always agree, but I solemnly promise to be respectful (I make no promises about sarcasm), and listen to your side.

So let’s get gabbin’!

Stu -

Stu is the computer geek. He work full time and is back in college. I (Valerie Jane) couldn’t get him to write anything on this section so he will have to put up with what I write! Stu is the Webmaster of the blog, and my hubby!

It is rare that he will write his own articles, however when he does it is usually on something technical and geeky or the economy.

Stu is a hard core conservative. He thinks Rush Limbaugh is far too liberal to be on the radio and is looking for a compound in Montana to move to. ;-) Joking! I think……. hmmm……

Our Guest Writers:

Pretty in Pink (aka PIP)

My name is Kate and I’m the wild card! I am a self-proclaimed liberal, feminist, pro-lifer. Accordingly most of my social issues lean liberal which often puts me at odds with the other writers! However, when it comes to politics I hold everybody accountable!

I am 22, an incoming graduate school (Physician’s Assistant) student; I just graduated with a BA in Biology and a minor in Theology from Saint Louis University. I have a love of science, reading, traveling, exercising, and pets among my passionPinkSmileyFace for music, movies, art and TV. Pets include Chuck, my dwarf hamster, Paul (Simon) and Artie (Garfunkel), my 2 rabbits, Dylan, my beta fish, and the three siblings- Lindsay, Michael, and Buster- my 3 dwarf platy fishies. RIP Jelly the hamster, Daphne, and Niles the 2 guppies!

I also like to make movies of my own. Recently I decided to mix my love of life, human rights, and movie making to create my first real documentary, called What to Expect When You’re Expecting in College. Check it out on YouTube now!

I consider myself spiritual and I believe in Jesus, but I’m a religious freelancer. Although I grew up Catholic and find myself identifying more with them than most denominations I don’t pledge my loyalty to any particular religion.

I always look forward to talking about different political and social issues and most of my friends can attest to that! My most important social and political stances arise from a passion for human rights. I’m a current member of Amnesty International, Feminists for Life, Democrats for Life, and MoPIRG. My favorite charities are March for Dimes, Heifer International, The ASPCA, The Epilepsy Foundation, and Nothing but Nets.

I look forward to the ensuing discussions so I’ll see ya there!

John McDonell -

John writes a weekly post mostly on healthcare reform.  He is known to mix it up with religious and philosophical thoughts.

John is 62 years old and is the 4th of 7 kids.  He has 4 brothers and 2 sisters.  HeEagle_Owl graduated HS in 1965 and studied Chemistry before the age of computers.  He went to seminary for 3 1/2 years.

He remembers the days when an HP calculator cost $1,900 compared to the $35 we spend now.  John believes that “young people (before  getting hitched) continuously talk about work and parties.  They need to celebrate life in their circumstances.  Pain and death is a huge part of that celebration.”

He has been retired for awhile due to his disability called Friedreich’s Ataxia.  But that doesn’t slow him down a bit as he can still keep up with all the young ones on here!
