Community News is Back!
It has been awhile since I broke the community news section community news “submitt news” has been running. My mistake An update caused an issue and I pretty much failed to test for incompatibility issue on my test site it wasn’t working properly. But hey, its not like it was all my fault!
Any way…. The Community News Section is back so feel free to submit some news and let the rest of us know what we should be reading about. Submit News
You can also post a news article in the back-end (see below Your Submissions) and you can also update your profile there too (that includes changing the password to something easier to remember).
And yes, I have a lot more functions on the backend than you do… ![]()
Recession: It’s Not Nice to Double Dip
For the last couple of months I have had some worries about the potential for a double dip recession. There are several indicators that make me worry…
- Very sluggish job market. We are gaining few private sector jobs. Forget the headlines and look at the underlying data. 30-70k jobs a month in the private sector is bad. We need roughly 200k a month to have some form of growth.
- Worker Productivity has risen very steadily for the last 6 months. That should make the case for new hires, but business has not started hiring. That means business is concerned about the future.
- Business has $2 + trillion in the back and they are not spending it. That shows a concern over future costs.
Tom Scott’s Journalism Warning Labels
So I was about to sign into twitter to tweet that my elbow really hurts, when I noticed on the front page a tweet from Tom Scott that he created “Journalism Warning Labels”. It interested me and I had to click to see. Some pictures are below, but go to Tom’s web site to read the rest and download the template!
Sunday Readings August 8, 2010
Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Reading 1
The night of the passover was known beforehand to our fathers,
that, with sure knowledge of the oaths in which they put their faith,
they might have courage.
Your people awaited the salvation of the just
and the destruction of their foes.
For when you punished our adversaries,
in this you glorified us whom you had summoned.
For in secret the holy children of the good were offering sacrifice
and putting into effect with one accord the divine institution.
Ps 33:1, 12, 18-19, 20-22
Responsorial Psalm

Vanity of vanities, says Qoheleth,
vanity of vanities! All things are vanity!
Here is one who has labored with wisdom and knowledge and skill,
and yet to another who has not labored over it,
he must leave property.
This also is vanity and a great misfortune.
For what profit comes to man from all the toil and anxiety of heart
with which he has labored under the sun?
All his days sorrow and grief are his occupation;
even at night his mind is not at rest.
This also is vanity.

Whale Crushes Boat
A picture is worth a thousand words…. or maybe 10 thousand pounds crashing into a boat. Yeah, that’s a real story…
So lets have fun and have a caption contest…
Mine: “Right Whale meets Wrong Boat”… Or “I have a Whale of Tale to tell”…

Diogenes: One of the Great Catholic Commentators
I love “snarky” dry humor and one of the people I look forward to writing an opinion piece is Diogenes at CatholicCulture.com. He “Off the Record” column can be incredibly humorous. He can be a little obsessed with the pedophile scandal and I don’t always agree with his hard comments on Bishops, except for some that truly deserve it. He has a wonderful way of point out the foolishness of some peoples claims.
I don’t like the copy/paste method of blogging, I think content can be original and not stolen. But I am going to break that rule, because this is just too funny and I hope CatholicCulture.com gets some more hits because of it (yeah that is a means justifies the end statement). So go read CatholicCulture.com, because they have such great articles!
