California’s Prop 8 update
There have been some recent updates to California’s Prop 8 vote that happened during the elections. I’m sure we can all remember the violence that erupted when certain groups didn’t like what the voters had to say. Well, this time it is a Judge that may be in trouble:
In October, Walker ruled that Boies, Olson et. al (attorney’s for 2 gay couples) were entitled to see see the internal memos and e-mails between Yes on 8 strategists to look for evidence that the campaign had sought to exploit anti-gay bias. Such evidence would strengthen the plaintiffs’ claim that the ballot measure was discriminatory and thus unconstitutional.
But the Ninth Circuit put a swift kibosh on that ruling on Thursday. A panel comprised of Clinton appointees Kim Wardlaw, Raymond Fisher and Marsha Berzo ruled that the Proposition 8 sponsors “have made a strong showing that they are likely to succeed in their arguments” that the discussions were constitutionally protected and that an order like Walker’s would discourage candid communications in political campaigns.
Oops, They Vandalized The Wrong Church
This is getting pathetic. The intolerant hate mongers that can’t handle that the will of the people voted against them is at it again:
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) — Vandals may have marked up the wrong church Saturday
night in an apparent revolt against Proposition 8 supporters.
Black spray-painted swastikas marred the front of Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in San Francisco’s Castro district. Though the church itself is gay friendly……
Pastor Steve Meriweather told KCBS his parishioners actually share the vandals’ sentiment against Prop 8. "I think it’s unfortunate that they selected our community to attack," said Meriweather, "because it’s the wrong one."
Some attending mass at Holy Redeemer in the heart of the Castro are calling it a hate crime. San Francisco Police have been called in to investigate.
Oopsie. That isn’t the way to keep supporters is it? How pathetic. In their hate, they hurt one of the few Catholic Congregations that would stand by them. Perhaps they should do their research a tad bit better next time.
The good news. These hate mongers are more than likely the minority.
Michael Mazzaferro stood outside the church after mass, explaining to his two adopted young children that the vandals share his feelings but expressed themselves in the wrong way.
"Just the conflict between being Catholic and being a parent, and being in a same-sex relationship, there are a lot of challenges, and these are no different than any other challenges they’re going to face in life," said Mazzaferro of his children.
The Catholic League had this to say:
